Epson Stylus Photo R1900

I'm fed up, lost a lot of printing paper, inkt and TIME and no single good output on the EPSON. [too dark and certainly not in relation with the preview] I have tried everything wrt settings and calibration of my screen. [managed by printer, custom profile] Update EPSON printer driver,load last paper profiles,used ilford paper and profiles etc. Has anyone the correct method to deliver good quality output via this printer or is it impossible for LR to produce realistic looking prints.

There are a few different things at work here, but if they're too dark, first port of call has to be the brightness at which you are calibrating your monitor. You want to be setting your monitor to around 1''-12'. What are you using at the moment? Are you getting correct brightness prints from any other programs?

Sounds like possible double profiling. I use a Mac so the printing side is slightly different but the main thing is to make sure that the printer driver is set to not colour manage and in LR set it to custom profile and select the correct profile fo rthe paper/ink/dpi setting.
Perhaps you could do a detailed explanation of how you are setting the print up.

Thanks for the reaction - sorry for the late respons.
Settings are:
1st option:managed by printer and media type is selected according the correct paper and ICM selected.
2nd option: epson stylus R19'' according paper and color management disabled in the printer driver.
When I'm printing via Capture NX, Photoshop and ACDSee everything is OK except via LR. Really disappointed in LR.

Hello pdvos,

I have an R19'' and I too struggled with it the first couple of days. Did some research on the internet, learned a few things - some of which have already been mentioned here:

• make sure you let only LR or the printer manage colors -- and not both
• get some really good paper and download the correlated ICC profile. i bought the Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster and downloaded the profile from Epson's website
• callobrate your monitor (perferably using hardware)

I bought this really helpful book called Lightroom for Photographers by Scott Kelby. There's a section in there dedicated to just printing and it's very well explained.

Aside from all this, you may want to try some basic troubleshooting. For instance: I would first try to determine if it's an issue with the printer or the computer. One way would be to try the printer on a different computer.

Thanks to Ronnell for your advice. I will follow your recommendations, order the book, install the complete package LR and printer on my second computer (running W2''') and come back with my results in the near future.
