Epson 7900

I have just received my new Epson 79'' printer. What is the "best" way to upsize images for printing to this large format when printing direct from LR2.3? Should one use something like Genuine Fractals? Also, can anyone comment on the +/- of Bi-directional printing for final prints? I have loaded paper profiles from Harman & Hannemuhle so, I'm ready to go.

As a output for print LR makes a very good boat anchor(in my opinion). I use qimage with Epson 21'', 78'' & 98'' and could not operate without it. Excellent interpolation, print sizing and all else that it does.

Bi- Directional is faster but due to mechanical tolerances in the printer it can introduce small alignment errors. Try it and compare, you may not be able to see the difference until the printer gets a bit older and things wear.

Genuine Fractals will make a better job of upscaling than LR or Photoshop for that matter.

Personally, I can make 22" x 32" prints and not be able to tell what I upscaled with. I can't even tell the difference if I pixel peep, and I sure can't tell from normal print distances. As for bi-directional printing, it is more of a paper issue. On some papers bi-directional printing can actually cause slight smearing as there is less dry time between passes. Experiment to see, I have never had an issue with printing in both direction. My advice would be to use what you have until you really need to go out and spend a bunch of money on other programs. Much more useful to buy a ColorMunki and be able to make your own profiles on whatever paper you may have a whim to try... I never had much success with canned profiles.
