hello
I've always understood that the edits I apply in LR are retained in the catalogue (database).

So, can anyone shed light on why, when I open a raw file from the hard drive level and view it in PS (it opens in ACR) all of my LR edits are there?

Thanks

You must have saved your metadata to file, either in a sidecar file or in the DNG file if you use them. As ACR uses the same rendering engine as LR it can read and apply your edits from those files.

Also, there are parameters in the Catalog settings which influence this behaviour.

Just to make sure you inderstand: The checked setting shown here applies to metadata of exported images, not to original raw files. What applies to the raw files and causes the described behavior in Photoshop is the second option (unchecked in this screenshot).
