I have had a new hard drive put into my iMac and initially all the 4000 photos were "missing'
The Computer Repairers have resolved the Missing photos issues but I now notice that the photos appear to have lost all their edits and keywords.
I do note that the keywords are in the list of keywords but not against any of the individual photos.

Is it possible to get the edits back? Is it possible to get the keywords back?

Is this an issue whenever you change or upgrade your computer?

I am not very good at IT and find it a challenge to follow a lot of the advice given out.
The photos were transferred initially from my back up drive.

If the image files that were recovered were reimported into Lightroom, then you lost the keyword assignments because the reimport was like importing a new image.

Computer "repairers" as you called them are notoriously unaware of how to update and/or move lightroom Classic - Espeically those from Apple IMHO. They mostly just assume that LrC is like any other app and follow their tried and true scipt which works for everything else. Then, if they notice that LrC has no images they again fall back to what they use for other apps and just re-import everything - collect your money and give you your computer back.

I suspect (as does @clee01l ) that the tech re-imported the images.

Hopefully you have a backup of your Lrc catalog from just before the hard drive swap. What you need to do is to open that catalog. Depending on what version the catalog is for vs. what version you have installed now it may need to updrage the catalog to be compatible with your current version. This will bring back all your keywords, collecitons and other things. However, it may result in all your folders being 'missing'. If this happens then re-link the highest level missing fodler to the same folder on the new drive. You can see here for instructions: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-photos-missing-fix/

I tried to follow the blog from Victoria re missing photos before and I just don't understand it to be able to follow it through.
When I did what it says to find the missing photos, my computer opened up the dialogue box from Desktop. The photos are definitely not in my Desktop nor have they ever been. I am not good at reading and comprehending and its a shame that she does not do a tube on it as my learning is following someone else not reading.
Would the same issue with the Missing Photos have happened had I had bought a new computer and transferred the photos from my back up drive to that. I assume so. I have to find someone that deals with MACs and Lightroom software issues and that has not been easy in finding such people.$

I'm more of a Windows person but do help as many Mac folks as Windows folks with such problems. Just not as familiar with Finder as I am with Windows File Explorer but can usually get done what is needed. See my website here

That is just the default location for this dialog (it is a standard MacOS dialog). It does not mean Lightroom thinks the photos are there. What you must do is navigate to the correct location using this dialog.

We are here. It would probably help to see a screen shot of your folder panel in LrC and a screen shot of the Finder folders showing where your images are located. You need to find these images using Finder so that we know where to look when we go back to Lightroom.

If when you clicked on the LrC message box to find your missing images, then the Path field in the LrC catalog is probably pointing to the Desktop. The dialog that LrC opens showing your Desktop is a Finder window. You can use it to navigate to where your folders are that contain your cataloged images.
