I was hope to get some guidance on how I might transfer the work I've done on my laptop to my desktop.

I've imported a folder of images into LM on both computers, but not sure how i will get catalogue instructions for this folder over to the desktop. Is there a way to go into the catalogue to get the info specific for this catalogue over to to the desktop?

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for this link. The answer I need might be here, but I'm not sure I see it.

My 2''9 LM catalogue has around 5',''' images, so I wasn't thinking of moving the whole thing to my laptop (it's 77 gigs). If I did it that way, I suppose, I'd have my entire LM Cat copied to my laptop. Do my edit, then copy the LM Cat on the laptop to the Desktop (over-writing the Catalogue that was on the desktop).

I was hoping there would be an easy way to edit a job on the laptop (flagging my selects, perhaps making some universal color changes) and then when I get home, import this folder of from LM on the Laptop to LM on the desktop. Perhaps never touching the RAW files.

Thanks for any further guidance.

The 2 computers can be connected via ethernet cable.

Then from the desktop, simply "Import From Catalog" choosing the laptop's catalog.

So I would export the catalog from my desktop, bring over to the laptop, then when edit is done, export it to the desktop or can the catalog on the laptop can be ADDED to the catalog of the desktop, not over-write it?

The tools you want are Import from Catalog and Export as Catalog Marzipan. The basic idea is that you can use Export as Catalog to split off a section of a catalog, and Import as Catalog to merge into an existing catalog.

So yes, you've got the basic idea - you'd export as catalog to a small catalog that you can open on the laptop, edit on the laptop, then copy it back again, and with the desktop catalog open you'd go to Import from Catalog and point to that little catalog to pull the updates back in. If you're concerned about overwriting existing settings, there's a 'create virtual copies' checkbox in that Import from Catalog dialog which will just add VC's of those images.

I'm afraid I had to abort my attempt to import the catalog back into my desktop. During the process of "import as catalog", it got to the part of checking for duplicates and the progress bar didn't move for 3 hours. Now I know I have a lot of images to go through and there was no indication that LM crashed - but whatever the reason - that's not going to work for me (to do 3 hours of editing on the road, but then take even longer to transfer the work is a deal breaker).

I'm not sure where that leaves me. If any one has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!

When I'm working on my laptop I don't use the catalog from my desktop because the harddisk isn't big enough. Lately I import most pictures on the laptop and throw away the bad ones and do a little developing on it. After that I select the pictures and export them as a catalogue with the originals on an external drive and import them on the desktop. So what you should be doing is selecting the pictures you want to copy and don't export the complete catalogue.

Marzipan, it shouldn't do that. So does it get as far as the dialog where you can see the image previews?

No. I saw no previews. Crazy - I cost myself a lot of time trying to get this to work. The catalog on the laptop had very few images.

Thanks for you're continuing interest.
