Has anyone here used DxO Optics with their LR workflow and what did they think of it ? I tried installing it about a year ago but the installer didn't play ball so I gave up. A new update has been recently released and I intend to try it out. The auto lens correction looks like a great time saver.

First impressions.....

The RAW conversion is good, really good. It auto corrects lens and perspective distortion and CA really well. The auto sharpening and exposure compensation is also very good and gives you a really nice starting point.

The big issue I see is having to export the file as a Tiff / DNG (linear) which means huge files ! and then import into LR which makes the workflow more complicated.

I think I will wait and see what LR3 brings as the RAW conversion in that is also much better than LR2. Adobe may even include a couple of surprises like auto CA adjustments ! (I'm quite sure auto lens correction won't be there yet)

Talking to yourself?

I have DXO, use it for one customer, first pass for lens corrections and then a linear DNG into LR which I use for the colour/density correction. Honestly... the linear DNG's react differently to the sliders than the original NEFs as they're no longer true raw data, and it just feels weird. The lens corrections are good, but personally I wouldn't include it in my normal workflow, and I just keep it for special occasions. I'm looking forward to whatever Adobe release along these lines in the future.
