Dust and Scratches while importing from D200

Hi,

I'm having a problem with all RAWs that I done with my D2''. There's some awfull way that the photos are being rendered.
Here's the problem itself ...

These are photos WiTHOUT any corrections done by the software... they were simply imported.
I've tried to affect on it with changing ISO, color mode, used presets in camera... noting helps.
Has someoe idea what could it be...

PS. with Canon RAWs is everything ok :(

Have you tried making adjustments via the Detail Panel in Develop? Specifically the Noise Reduction and Sharpening panes, and in particular, Detail Sharpening.

BTW, welcome to the forums.

Thanx :)

So, I tried to switch off all "switchable" corrections from Develop panell to avoid any influence.

As the Canon RAWs with the same settings are ok I do connect it with "Nikon vs Adobe" problems...
The mentioned adjustments if ISO and color mode was made in camera while trying to find cameras influence on this problem.

I don't see any dust and scratches with either of the two images. The LR image is noisier. But then, I've always found the LR noise algorithms a second best to almost any other post processing software. I don't know what NX is doing behind the scenes, but the "WiTHOUT any corrections" is simply not true. Neither image looks like a SOOC RAW image. In LR, take your Imported Only Image and apply the "General Zeroed" preset to it. It should look flat and generally toneless. That is about as close to RAW as you will get.

Did you work from an NEF or NEF=>DNG in LR? The NEF will contain processing parameters and a camera Processed JPEG. It is quite possible that NX is using one or both of these to generate the "unprocessed" image seen in NX. LR will convert the NEF format to DNG and preserve any metadata contained in the header. The DNG spec can contain a Processed JPEG. I don't know whether LR provides one inside the DNG it converts. I do know that LR does not use the JPEG from the DNG to create its previews.

I would not be upset with the LR rendition of your image. You should be able to match the final output from NX processing satisfactorily. Even noise reduction. and if not, you can always Edit-In

Of cource the main problem is that on final outputs this artefacts look like a fur.

In your example above you are shooting at ISO 1''', NX will be removing some of that noise but LR won't unless you tell it to.

I did not apply any settings. Niether befor nor after importing... :(

2sizzlingbadger: these are shot with ISO 8''. I tried to vary ISO by shoting and the way camera works with niose and it didn't seem to have much influence on the photos like this.
The only thing that says "yes" for NIOSE is that studio-photos don't have such a problem. They appearing only when I shoot with low light.

NX will always apply the camera settings on the imported file. I have a D2'' and images at higher ISOs will have (unless turned off in the camera settings) a flag for NX to do some high-ISO noise reduction. Lightroom doesn't know about the D2'' camera settings and will not do anything but import the file.

For high-ISO images I find NX2 to be a better conversion tool than LR but since I have my D7'' I've used NX2 only on a few occasions. All other processing is done with LR and PS.

I was looking at your LR image which clearly shows ISO1''' but that's not really that important. NX will be cleaning up stuff that LR will not be doing.

oops... really...usually I do not make ISO more than 8''...
anyways, thanx for answers!
I think it's just really the way Nikon and LR working with noise. I tried to minimise noise with LR and seems like Nikon does it better.
I've tried also LR3 that gave me better result as 2.6 but however that good as NX2.
