duplicate?

How do I duplicate a file please? I want a cropped and uncropped version.

Hi

I would create a virtual copy you then can do what you like to the new version. Would then stack the two together.

"virtual" copy? That means it's a copy but not quite?

It is all 'not quite' till you export. Changes are metadata. You can do more than one set of metadata changes for an image by using 'Virtual Copies. Export which ever or all as you want. It is only then that anything is turned into actual pixel changes and written in 'stone'.

Yes, it's basically a figment of the database's imagination. The advantage is that it takes about 13kB or so to create a 1'+MB copy. The disadvantage is that it only exists in LR and nowhere else, until it's exported. At that point, of course it becomes a real image in the exported format.

So I created a virtual copy then cropped it then went to drag it into a collection and it wouldn't go. I have to export it or do it again in the other collection? Seems this software has regressed from simple solutions.

What version of LR are you using?1.4.1 or 2.'? What OS?

I am using 2.' I just put an image in a collection. In grid (All Photographs, not Collection) I made a VC and Cropped and Grayscaled it. Had No issues dragging it to the same Collection.

So I don't know what is happening with your copy. Try quiting a restarting LR.

Were you in the collection already - I have done that - tried to move a file to where it already was !!:lol::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:
