Hello,

Before i go out and buy another monitor I would like to find out if i can do what i need to with two Monitors.

At the moment i have the HP LP2275W http://h1''1'.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF'5a/382'87-382'87-64283-3884471-3884471-3648453.html
which is a amazing screen, what i am wanting to do is to get another screen (not sure what size but a cheapy) and use this cheap screen to show the grisd and devalopment sliders and on my HP screen to view the image in full screen - hope this makes sence and is this possible?

Cheers
Mark

OS?, desktop, laptop?

Certainly in theory you can use two monitors, the devil's in the details. The User Interface elements in Lr are not 'detachable', so you can't just put the sliders on the other screen with the grid. You can fool it to a certain extent, by dragging the Develop module window wider that one screen, so that the sliders appear on a second screen positioned to the right of the main screen.

Well, then I'm not sure.

I've been running great with 3 or 4 monitors(depending on who in the house needs the spares :) ) on an old PCI motherboard on WinXP. With two dual headed nVidias, I was confident I had two independently calibrated displays.

I've just booted up my new Dell i7, Vista 64(Home Premium) this weekend. It has an ATI Radeon dual DVI-out video card and a 24" Dell 192'x1'8' monitor(16x9). When I connect a second monitor, for some reason the first monitor is forced down to the far less capable resolution/aspect (128'x1'24)/(5x4) choices of the second monitor. (I did read one review of the system indicating a dual monitor problem encoutered, which the poster attributed to the ATI Vista64 drivers.) I ignored that post, because I intended to buy a second low-spec video card anyway to enable independent calibration. I'm doing that research now, but running into a road block, in that the only open slots in my new box are PCIe-x1, and almost all video cards (even the cheapest) require PCIe-x16. Still looking and thinking.

In the meantime, if your second monitor is capable of identical resolution with the first and if you will be happy with only one of them being calibrated, I expect you should have no problem.

Sorry, not much of an answer, but much of what I thought I understood was obsoleted a bit this weekend.

One other word of caution... LR's handling of two monitors is a little different than other programs (like Photoshop). It takes a little getting used to. Things that work on monitor one don't necessarily work on monitor two. LR treats the second monitor almost like a different interface to the program.

I run LR with dual monitors and now have all the quirks (I think all) worked out. You can test this by activating the second monitor view as a floating window on your one monitor setup to experiment before getting a second monitor. See if you like it and can use it.

That being said, I'd recommend a second monitor just for all the other functionality it gives you for all your work (not to mention all that additional screen real estate! LOL)

I use two monitors. With LR, I've tried it with having a full-screen photo on the second screen and all the tools on the other screen, with a smaller photo. I also use it with most modules hidden, until I need them, and have a grid of photos on the second screen for selecting. I generally work the second way because the photo on my screen with the development module is big enough to edit.

I use two 22" monitors. Years ago I started using dual monitors with a 15" and a new 17". I found two monitors of different sizes and resolutions to be a pain. Ideally is two monitors the same.

Thanks Patrick, so how did you go about having the photo as full screen and making adjustments at the same time? On mine at the moment on the one screen i have to hit the TAB key to make it full screen but that hides all the adjustment tools so i can actually make any adjustments while the image is at full screen.

Re: dual monitor question-calibration

Hi, Brad, my wife has a Dell PC with two Dell monitors and a dual video card. I found that I could independently calibrate both cards using a Spyder 2 by connecting only one monitor at a time and calibrating it. The ATI software recognized each calibration. I cannot access the computer to see if both monitors are at the same resolution or not. I seem to remember that I set them to the same resolution since both could handle it.

First time poster. Keep up the good work.

That's an understatement!
