Drag & Drop Sorting not working

I've just downloaded a trial version of Lightroom, and I'm unable to arrange images in a collection, or drag and drop selected images to a collection...I assume this is how it would work, and that something's wrong?

Make sure you drag the thumbnail image not the border.

And for sorting, make sure that the "Sort: User Order" is selected in the Grid toolbar. (If the toolbar is hidden, click "T" in grid mode to reveal it; sort is the (A Z) button toward the right end of the menu bar.

Actually, that is an un-necessary step I never do. One just needs to be in a Folder or Collection where User Sorting us allowed and , as said drag from the middle of the image, not the frame.

You Can only do such sorting in Quick Collection, non smart Collections and Folders, and then in only the lowest levels of a hierarchy, unless you have Menu/Library/Include Photos in Subfolders UN-checked!

Thanks for the "account sorting," Don!

It was my impression that "Sort: Capture Time" was the default for new collections and would need to be toggled to User Order before re-arranging would be possible. Is user sorting enabled elsewhere such that you never have to toggle it via the toolbar I suggested?

If the sort order is anything other than "user order", and you drag an image, the sort order should change to "user order" automatically.

Try it for yourself. If you are where such sorting is allowed, as I list. Try just dragging and see the black bar will sjow and allow you to drop a sort position. Easily tested. Does for me.

To save others, and myself asking what version LR, OS, System and gear you have, could you fill out your Signature, under USER CP in the Menubar above?
