Double checking nested keywords

Is there a way to doublecheck that the hierarchical or "nested" keywords I have in Lightroom are set up correctly? And that they are exporting to xmp sidecars correctly?

They seem to be setup properly in the LR keyword list such that "frankg" is placed under the parent keyword "_family", for example. However, when I recently tried viewing the keywords from Bibble, which reads them from the xmp sidecars, the keywords did not transfer over consistently: i.e., under the keyword list in LR I might have the keywords, "mary", "mike", and "john" all under the parent keyword "family" but looking at how they are being read from the sidecars "mary" might be shown as a child of "family" but "mike" and "john" are shown as standalone keywords.

I understand that the program I'm using to read them might be in error, but is there a way to verify that a) my keywords are properly nested in LR and b) they have been correctly written into an xmp sidecar with the hierarchy intact?

In the Keywording panel, in the dropdown list beside Keyword Tags, click on 'Will Export'; this should show you what Lr thinks it's supposed to export for the selected image. See if that tells you anything about what's going on.

In general, though you will find that transferral of metadata between various viewing/editing applications is always an adventure, and requires a bit of experimentation and validation before commmitting to a workflow. I presume this is due to the rapid forward pace of end-user application development outstripping the standards setting community. That, and rogue corporations ignoring standards from either ignorance or marketing.
