DNG/XMP question

I have a question regarding DNG files and their XMP files...
I have selected 'automatically write changes into XMP' but there are no XMP files attached to any of my DNG files. Why is that? When I view these DNG files in my finder window... the image is shown without any of the adjustments. WHen I export the image, I still don't see any of the corrections. Can a corrected DNG image only be viewed in Lightroom?

XMP files are only created for raw format files like CR2, NEF etc. In the case of TIFFs, JPEGs and DNGs, the information is written into the file's header leaving the pixel data untouched. The DNG also have a preview embedded. Updating that preview is not done by writing the XMP information. You have to specifically tell Lightroom to "Update DNG previews".

When I export the image, I still don't see any of the corrections.

Actually, when *exporting* the images, the corrections should be visible to other applications. What steps exactly are you taking to export?


In the meantime, for un-exported images, the command Denis mentioned is located under the Library module > Metadata menu or Develop module > Photo menu pulldowns.

Here I though I was going crazy!
I'm going through the normal steps of exporting an image. I am still not seeing the adjustments though in really basic programs like 'Preview' I don't have CS3 installed on my new computer yet. I'll see if I have any better results in CS3 on my old Power Book.
