I always thought to look at new camera RAW files in LR before RAW support for that camera was supported you could Import using "Copy as DNG". I got this dialog box:

LR Dialog Box on Import.jpg

You misunderstood that. 'Copy as DNG' imports the original RAW file, and then converts it to DNG. If the original RAW file is unsupported, Lightroom can't do this. What you can do is download the free Adobe DNG Converter, convert the raw files to DNG with that converter (outside of Lightroom), and then import the DNG files into Lightroom.

Per Adobe "The Adobe DNG Converter is a free utility that enables you to easily convert camera-specific raw files from more than 600 cameras to the more universal DNG raw format. " BUT, until ARC support for the camera, the DNG converter won't work either. Looking for Sony A99ii RAW support.

Patience...
