DNG or not?

Been reading the LR 2 by Martin Evening and to prove how much I pay attention to things...........I just started seeing reference to DNG's. Is it pretty standard practice to covert to DNG from RAW? I haven't done that yet in my workflow........just finding out about it.

Thanks, I put DNG in the search criteria and it found nothing...........must not be enough letters. Guess I didn't scrolls the forums enough.

Searching for 3 letters give no results and the "or" word is counted as an operator... So I searched for "convert to DNG" and as I remembered the topic's title, I looked for it in the 13 pages of results...
