dng files open directly in Photoshop CS4

I have lightroom 2.3 with camera raw 5.3 loaded. I have also upgraded to PS CS4 recently.

All my raw files have been concerted to dng format and I now find that these dng files open directly into PS without opening camera raw. I process all my files through camera raw first and then make final adjustments in PS. Has anyone come across this problem.

Hi peerden, welcome to the forums. When you have a minute, please fill out your profile under UserCP in the blue bar, including your system specs/info. That will help with troubleshooting.

Question - why do you do additional processing in camera raw? Lightroom should take care of most of that for you. Then, when Lightroom editing is done, you can edit for any other more advanced stuff in PS CS4.

If, however, you still need to access Camera Raw for some reason, you can choose Open As Smart Object in Photoshop from the Edit In menu in Lightroom. Then, when it opens in Photoshop, double-click the thumbnail for the picture in the Layers panel. That will open up the Camera Raw dialog.

Thanks. This answers my question though I feel that processing through Camera Raw is my preferred option. I am still getting to grips with Lighthouse.

Welcome Peter, You may not know but LR and ACR have the same engine so what you can do in ACR can be done in LR. This is the reason they are updated at the same time!!
