DNG and CR2 or just DNG ?

Ok so i have convinced myself DNG is good but not so much that i do not
delete CR2 on import ..I have them backed up to another location but it is very slow....

I am not a pro and do o paid work yet so why should i bother ?

Have i just answered my own question ?

From the point of view of workflow, I would recommend converting to DNG, doing all the editing in DNG - saves fussing with XMP files and you get lossless compression.
Back up your CR2s as they are the absolute master. You can always export the XMPs from DNG to use with the Raw files at a later date if something new and whizzy comes along to process Raws that is better than LR.

I assume from this that you mean the conversion into DNG during the import.

A number of things would play a part including transfer speed; in this regard you may be better off to copy your RAW files into a folder on the machine, then import as DNG from there.

It will inevitably take longer than a straight RAW import as it does the copy/conversion before it imports. A factor in this is also how much crunch power your machine has.

Or import as proprietary raw file and later, when you've got time spare, select them and go to Library menu > Convert Photo to DNG and it'll swap the raw files for DNG.
