Dissapearing crop tool

I am getting a situation where when im using the crop tool it dissapears and the zoom cursor appears in its stead - how's that happen?

I don't know if this is relevant to your post but I have noticed that after using the crop tool successfully on a large number of images, LR 2.1 stops cropping just out of the blue. I select the crop tool, adjust the crop marks and either before or when I click "Enter" the crop marks jump back to the full width of the image as if they are spring-loaded rubber bands. It becomes impossible to crop that image or any other images until, at the very least, I have restarted LR or restarted my PC. I use a mixture of Original, 1x1, and 8x1' crops.
Once restarted I can carry on cropping to my hearts content for another couple of hundred images, but then the same thing happens again. I don't know what causes this to happen.

Simon, by any chance, when you switch back to the Grid view, does it not allow you to select images in the middle of the Grid until you restart? No idea how it gets into that state, but that's definitely a bug.

Do you mean after the cropping problem? That's not a problem Ive noticed yet but then thatr's not somethin Ive tried often

Simon, based on your other weird info bug and this one, I'd try deleting the preferences file, if you haven't already.

I havent tried that yet, but will. Erm.. where does it live?
Is it USER>Library>preferences>com.adobe.Lightroom2.plist?

You can also check if there is anything jamming the Space Bar on you keyboard... :roll:
