Dispaly diff LR 2.2 to Webbrowser

I have discovered that the image displayed by LR and any othter software on my PC differ in terms of the gamma.

Basically LR is '.2 off the others = brighter.

My Monitor is calibrated to 2.2 and all my programms show the images equally and OK. If I want to see the same on LR I have to switch to a gamma 2.4 profile for the Monitor.

If I compare to the prints gamma 2.4 is fine for Firefox, INfranview and co. but for LR I need a 2.6 profile to see the same.

Any Ideas why, or is this a bug ?

How exactly are you calibrating? Tells us more about that, and your system, OS, Lr versions, etc.? Do you have the optional color-management enabled in Firefox?

Hi,

I use Windows XP pro SP3, calibrated with a Spyder3 and Spyder 3 Elite Software.
LR was 2.3 Beta but is is also on 2.2 visible. I use Seamonkey as browser and have not seen a color-management there, also the IE 6 looks the same as Seamonkey.

I test the next days with new profiles created with the basiccolor 4.1.1 software.
The Spyder profiles are anyway not the best.

The other thing to check is the profile that you're setting when you export the images - or are you exporting using web module?

no I export via the export dialog and NOT a web galarie.
I export to JPG / SRGB with some sharpenning for screen.

after some tests I can say.

- the Spyder Elite profiles are not good, basiccolor is MUCH better.
- LR and my PS 2 Elements show the same picture
- Web Browser and Infranview seem to have NO color management.

Therefore it is clear why I see differences when using different software.
Problem solved so far.

I have discovered that the images are quite OK if I select the monitor profile on export in LR. The resulting Image looks fine for the colors in the other applications and on othter systems. OK a bit of gamma difference, but that is now a minor issue.


Now I have to see what happens if my lab prints the images onto photographic paper and which setting to use (SRGB or my monitor profile).

I'll answer that one now - monitor profiles are only for monitors, not for assigning to images.

BasICColor software is excellent for calibrating, and you're quite right, web browsers aren't usually colour managed. I haven't checked IrfanView, but that would make sense.

Short addition,

Infranview in the lates version with the lates plugins can now use embedded color profiles of JPG and TIFF files.
Have not tested it in detail now.
