Discrepancy between total photos and thumbnails

I am ready to bang my head against the wall when I get an obvious answer to this question. I just can't come up with an explanation.

I am learning LR, and methodically adding folders to the catalog.

I have 1813 photos (Catalog > All Photographs = 1813).

However, I display only 1768 thumbnails. All Filters are off = "none". No Collections.

What could cause this discrepancy? Duplicates? Don't think so. Wouldn't that still give the same number of thumnails? But if this is the problem, what would be the best way to filter to find them?

Sonny, could it be that you have stacks and they are collapsed? The hidden photos of those collapsed stacks subtract from display total.
