I have a Preview file that is about 14gig. My preferences are set to discard 1:1's after 3' days.

I ran the Discard 1:1 Previews command on my entire catalog and it ran for about ten minutes as it dumped the previews, but when it finished, I still had a 14gig Preview file... Closed LR and reopened, still the same. I'd like to reclaim some of my HD space and don't need older previews.. Am I missing something?

No Michael, it takes a lengthy period fro them to disappear from the previews file.
Place a feature request.........

The rationale is that deleting them immediately, would screw up the 'undo' function. I'm not so sure that's a good reason. I'm with Geoff, if it bothers you, file a feature request.

I just deleted the preview file and let LR rebuild as I worked on new images. If the only reason not to clear immediately is the Undo function, then that's no reason for me.

I don't actually know that's the only reason, that's how I've seen it explained.

I'm with you guys, a 1)Delete 2) Are you sure? 3) Yes, bang! .... workflow would work for me. There's no realrisk of data loss, since the files are reconstructed [acronym=pro re nata, (as the matter arises)]PRN[/acronym] as necessary.

I did a Rename ".old" and launched LR to be sure I didn't gum up the works...
