Hello,

I have a new Mac Osx install the latest patch and the latest version of Lightroom. My catalog images made in 5''' and has been optimized. The machine is a Mac Pro with 5 GB of memory (1st generation Intel Mac).

This is my little question when I go from the Library module to the devloppment module, I have "Loading" which appears on the image. So far nothing abnormal. But this" loading" can vary wildly.

1 photo untreated it takes 3 sec which acceptable
1 photo retouched ie basic corrections (expo, tone, ...) + removal of skin imperfections (+ / -2') + smoothing skin (retouching local) time goes to 12/13 sec which becomes dry very long.

The Raw size is 1'MB. The cache size is 5'GB and the preview size is 1:1

This will seem normal? Acceptable?

Thank you for your comments and remarks. I can be a bad use of some tools.

Have a nice day.

Fred

Hi Fred, welcome to the forum!

Is this Loading time in Develop module or Library module we're talking about here?

And where are the files stored (i.e. internal drive, external drive)?

Hi,

Thank you for the welcome.

It's concerninng the "Loading" time in the Develop module.

1 Disk contains the system/application and catalog.
1 Disk contains the raw files.
1 Disk contains the caches

Thus 3 Sata2 disks of 5''GB each.

It's the last version of Lr (2.2)

I am ready to do test and re-install if needed.

Have a nice day

Hi Fred

The local adjustments are very processor intensive, but that does sound like a frustratingly long time!

At what point in that 12-13 seconds do the sliders free up so that you can start working?

Thank you for your response ....

Thus to be precise I 'am in the library modue the I click on the Develop Module at this moment I receive the "Loading" statment. All the sytem seems slow thus if I try to use a slider I receive the small mutli-color circle. Any ideas ? This problem appaered sin Lr 2.' and it become boring ..

Bye

Fred

Ah, so this is not new in 2.2?

Ok, there are a few troubleshooting steps to try first. There's a long list here: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/showthread.php?t=1645

I'd particularly try a clean catalog to see if it could be a catalog problem, and delete/move the preferences file to see if it could be corrupted preferences.

If you'd like to drop one or two of the files on my server (http://vbftp.net), I'd be quite happy to time them here too, to see if I can replicate the problem with your existing Develop settings. If you want to do that, select the files in Grid view and press Cmd-S to write the settings to sidecar xmp files, and I'll see if I can find anything different about them.

Hi,

In fact it appears with versio 2.'. Before I used 1.4 and there were no problems.

My computer is freshly installed. I do the test with a new catalog and it stay the same :(

I uploaded 2 samples in a zip file on your site. Let me know if you find something.

It's really kind to help me

Hi Fred

Yeah, there's definitely something weird going on there. I can replicate the slowness, and if I sync your settings to other MkIII files, I can reproduce on those too, but if I paint local adjustments on my MkIII files myself, it's fine.

Do you mind if I pass those files back to Adobe Fred? It might help them figure out what's wrong.

PS. Solution for now seems to be 'don't use the local adjustments on MkIII files'!!!! But yeah, I know that's not an ideal fix!

Hi Victoria,

I will repeat myself but a big Thank you. Because this problem is really boring.

Yes if it can help no problem, you can send it to Adobe. I hope that will help other people that have the same problems.

For the moment I will adapt my workflow but I hope that we can find a solution.

Bye

Fred

No problem Fred, I'll get them sent off today, and hopefully they'll narrow it down.

Hi,

I do some deeper tests. Now I can re-produce the problem with any files from any camera. I do the test with 2'd files without local retouch there are no problem when I do some local retouching ... the problems appears :(

Really strange ...

Is there some news or some trends from Adobe

Bye

Fred

Adobe won't announce anything until they're ready to release a fix - and I wouldn't expect that too soon, partly due to the holidays, and partly due to the fact that they'll want it to go through all testing again to make sure they don't break something else while fixing that bug.
