Hi all,

I am having a problem with Lightroom that is making me crazy. I have a few images JPG images that have .hdr or .exr files as sidecars, and I am not able to instruct lightroom to forget about them. If I move one of this jpg to another folder (using lightroom) the hdr file moves along, which I don't want, I want to keep it in another directory. If I move the hdr file to another folder (not using lightroom), then when moving the jpg (using lightroom) it will complain the sidecar is missing. If I could just detach the sidecar from the jpg.....
If you wonder why did I end up with .hdr or .exr files as sidecars (when the manual only talks about .xmp sidecar files!), the come from procesing DNG files into hdr, and then creating a jpg, which I import back into lightroom. My naming convention uses the same name for the .jpg and .hdr files, and that's when lightroom gets confused and attaches the .hdr as sidecar (or that's what I think happens).

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Best,

Luis

Hi Luis, welcome to the forum!

It's an issue which doesn't currently have an easy solution. I'm pretty sure John Beardy posted on the U2U that you can remove the sidecar reference by editing the database directly, but that's not for the fainthearted. Realistically, it would make more sense to put in a Official Feature Request/Bug Report Form and request that the 'forget sidecar file' be made to work on all selected images instead of just one at a time.

Hi Victoria, thanks.

I was able to do what I wanted by removing (well, actually moving) the sidecar files in windows explorer and then in lightroom hitting synchronize on the folder and immediately canceling that request. This was enough for lightroom to identify it was missing the sidecars and display the '?' on the files. Then, as you say, I selected one image at a time and click 'forget'.

It would be good to have a menu option somewhere to ask lightroom to find all the files that have missing sidecars, otherwise one have to find the little '?' in a big pool of thumbnails. And by the way, the same option could be apply to finding out of sync metadata. I might go ahead and post a feature request.

Best,

luis
