Deleting Rejected Photos

When I reject photos in a collection, most if not all of the time when I select 'Delete Rejected Photos' if I'm in the Collection View I don't get an option to delete the photos from disk. If I switch to folder view, The photos no longer show as rejected.

I switch views back to the collection and they show as rejected again.

I'm assuming this is a bug, but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this.

Flags are specific to the view you're in, so that would be correct behaviour. And you can only delete images from disc in a folder view - deleting from a collection only removes from that collection.

Easiest solution is to select all of the rejected photographs in the collection, and then switch back to folder view (or All Photographs view) and they should remain selected and you'll be able to delete them off the disc too.

There are multi key combos for deleting other than in Folder. I guess they assume if you put it in a Collection, you are likely to keep it. Culling of 'Bad' stuff is often done after initial import.

I had a hard time coming to terms with collections, but as I work through my expectations, I am finding that collections work very well. And if I understand Don correctly, I agree that culling should happen before adding images to collections.

For example, I use collections to indicate which shots are going to web, or which shots are selects for print, etc. All of this happens after I have culled images, and after I have processed the remainder (or at least the ones with specific intents).

The design intention is that you can have photos in some grouping that you may want to flag as picks, but not in others. The most annoying part of it is when you want to delete a photo in a collection. Victoria's suggestion works. One thing I do is flag deletes in a collection red.

I read somewhere a recommendation that you use collections (vs keywords) for aspects of photos that are not inherent to the photo. For example, I do a lot of sports photography. I'm using collections to identify the game and another collection to identify the photos that I make available.

Is there a better way than this?

I find I use collections the most for orders I fill for clients. I use folders to keep track of a shoot, and then put selections from that into collections.

Well, I guess I am very addicted to the iViewMediaPro way of doing things (Catalog Sets, I mean).
So I use collections for everything, after erasing,deleting,exterminating and killing the bad shots with no mercy.
I mostly shoot people. So I have a collection for faces, a collection for close-up details, a collection for beauty shots (overlapping the "faces" collection, for instance), a collection for fashion with subcollections in it, and so on.
It works very well!
