I am using LR 5. Can I delete photos from the hard drive when in a collection? I actually have a number of collections I would like to permanently delete the all the photos from, but some of the collections span months of time and it seems inefficient to delete these photos one at a time from their original folders. Thank you!

Can I delete photos from the hard drive when in a collection?
No. A 'Delete' here will only remove them from the (standard) Collection.

To permanently delete from the Hard-drive you need to be in Library grid view.
So best suggestion is-
1) while in the Collection view- Mark the photos to delete with the X flag (rejected) (You could Ctrl+A to select all in the collection)
2) Return to Grid view with 'All Photographs' chosen in the Catalog panel.
3) On the Filter bar click the X-flag to show only the 'X-Rejected' photos
4) Review them carefully, Select the files positively to delete and [Delete > Remove Photos > Delete from Disk]

1. Go to library module and click on the collection
2. Press CTRL + A to select all photos in the collection
3. Go to the special collection called 0"All photograph"
4. Hit BACKSPACE key to delete all selected photos. When prompted hit "Delete from disk" to physically delete the file.
