sorry; another i may have asked here before

On1 is picking up ALL old unused, deleted from Lr keywords; even some I have not seen for years
Is there a way to safely remove keywords from the hard drive?

Cheers

I believe these keywords are scattered throughout your hard drive in the headers of image files. If you have a clean filesystem, this is not a problem. However it is a problem for almost everyone when On1 tries to use a filesystem as an image data manager.

There may be a way for ON1 preferences to ignore keywords found in images Or you may have to clean up your On1 keyword list after the fact

And Clee's point is a dealbreaker for me.

And if these are raw images, then it could be that you have old (not-updated) XMP files hanging around.

Thanks for the quick replies --- it does seem to be On1 'thing' according to FB learn On1 group comments. Certainly something On1 have to address before the program can be considered a true option to Lr.
On1 will pick up every keyword; even the typos deleted from Lr . This drama might be the one to make a catalog system the better option -- I remember Cletus saying similar before --- Lr uses a catolog on the hard drive while others use the hard drive to store data.
Hopefully luminar will not make or have the same mistake [yep; I have mentioned it to them]

As far as I know image keywords are stored only in the catalog or in image metadata including .xmp files. So unless ON1 is reading your catalog then this indicates that your image metadata is out of date with your catalog. The "Metadata -> Save Metadata to File" may be what you need to do.

Image keywords are stored in the file header of Exported JPEGs, TIFFs and DNGs.
AFAIK, On1 doesn't read the catalog mining keywords. It is sufficient to simply mine the headers of the image files recognized.

seem to be correct cletus; I feel I have seen a few keywords from the days of fiddling with windows tags --- back in the day when I was still learning how to turn the computer on -- still to work out how to turn off so I can do something important lol
Pretty sure Lr would have the catalog locked up like fort knox
