deleting in LR error.

I'm trying to delete some photos in LR 2.6 tonight and I'm getting the following error:
The file name "filename" could not be moved to the Recycle Bin.

Anyone seen this or know what the problem could be?

I think I have seen the same error in 2.5 and guess what. The message is wrong. The file was deleted. I think this is the last file in the list and what is probably happening is that when the delete process comes out of the loop, the error message is the next statement and gets executed even though it should not.

Or your recycle bin's too full? Or you don't have write access to the file?

I'm having the same problem with LR v 2.5. I have just replaced my computer and reinstalled LR and updated from 2.3 to 2.5. I can delete images that I have imported since the new computer was installed but not images imported earlier.

The message appears to be generated by LR not Windows (7). I have emptied and bypassed the recycle bin with no effect. In my case the images are definitely not being deleted.

I can of course delete images using Windows but that's definitely not ideal, as I might delete the wrong files!

Any suggestions?

Hi Alan, welcome to the forum!

If you've just changed your computer, my initial thought would be that you don't have full permission to delete those files (or LR doesn't).

I am having the same problem. I have a Win7 system and an administrator account. How can I give Lightroom the sufficient priviledges?

I am not using Win7 thus can't help. Just bumping you up in the meantime...

If the image files are located on a USB or network drive, it is possible that the owner of the drive was located on the old computer. If that is the case, what is necessary is for the new computer to assume ownership of the drive.
To check or change ownership of a USB drive:

  • [li]Click on the Computer Icon on the Desktop [/li]
    [li]Once in Windows Explorer, Right ZClick on the Removable drive [/li]
    [li]In the dialog window that pops up, click on the Security Tab[/li]
    [li]Then the <Advanced> button[/li]
    [li]In the next Popup dialog, click on the Owner tab [/li]
    [li]If the owner is not the Administrative account that is logged on, click <Edit> otherwise click <Cancel>[/li]
    [li]Select the new owner from the list in the "Change Owner to:" section[/li]
    [li]Check the checkbox "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" [/li]
    [li]Click <OK> or <Apply>[/li]
