Deleting Embedded RAWs

Hello, I'm new here.
I hope I'm posting in the right section.

I converted my ORF files into DNG with the "Embed RAW" option by mistake.
Is there a way to delete that embedded RAWs of the DNGs? I tried to export, but it always keep the embedded RAWs. :?

Can you run the conversion of the ORF files again, this time without the embedding? It mihgt be an easy solution if you do not have too many files.

The problem is that I've already done a lot of work with the pics :S (saved into their respective .xml)

If there's not another way, I'll stay with that DNGs ;)

I am sorry that I cannot offer up any other workable solution. Perhaps somebody else might have a creative idea?

Can you not use the DNG convertor on the DNG and un-select the embed RAW file?

I ran a test with the DNG convertor and wonder of wonders it has an extract button to extract originals from DNGs and it works fine.
Learning something new every day!!

It now need to have a "Strip originals from DNGs" button... ;)

Yes, I played with extraction a bit, before I committed to DNG in my work flow. I belive Pablo will have to do a full conversion, with the embed raw set to off. I haven't actually tried that scenario tho'. It's snowing outside my windows, I'm going to grab a couple of shots and play with this.

That shouldn't be a problem Mr.Floppy. All of the data should be saved in your Lightroom catalog too.

If you've still got the original files, backup the DNG's you've got, and replace them with newly converted DNG without the embedded raw. Lightroom will now think those are the DNG files it's meant to be using, and you can write the metadata out to file again.

That said, pointing the DNG converter at the folder of raw images, and asking it to convert to DNG again with the preferences turned off does do the job of removing the embedded proprietary file, so it's just a question of whether you want to save that file separately before you remove it.

VB, thanks for answering the main question, concerning preservation of the work. We jumped off into the arcana of DNG conversion, without explicitly addressing the OP's main concern. (Duh)

Tested, and worked perfectly, but not using the "Extract" button, just Converting again (Lightroom didn't).
