Delete photos( but it does not)

I have been playing around with my new toy- Epson Perfection V75' Pro- and scanning negatives I shot way back in the early Nineties.

Anyway, there are some images I imported that are really screwed up(operator error- I am learning this machine). So, I went ahead deleted the photos from disk option. Yes, the images disappeared from LR. But, when I took a peek at my G: drive, those images are still there. So, I right click to delete then I go to recycle bin and empty the bin.
Is this right? It seems that I am doing too many steps to delete an image.

No, they should delete with just the one Lr step.

With all that great data in your sig, you don't actually say what OS you're using, or what the G: drive is.

Sometimes delete problems are related to drive permissions in general or UAC issues with Vista.

I have modified my signature: I am using Vista.

My G: drive is one of my external HD.

Bob, if you're working with photos via folders, or the special Catalog collections, (All Photos, etc.) at the top of the Left Hand Panel, then what you're describing should work. Particularly if you're being offered the 'Delete from Disk' Confirm dialog.

Since that's not happening, can you describe, step by step what you're doing, and what happens?

OK, here I go:

Import button> highlight the files to be imported> choose> Import photos window> all previews are checked> I give it a name and keyword> hit import button> LR importing(& converting to Digital Negative)> the new images are listed as "previous import."> I click on one and view it in library mode> decide to reject photo> right click on the image> delete photo>confirm-Delete the selected master photo from disk, or just remove it from Lightroom?> I click on delete from disk> the image disappears from LR> the image still resides in G:> right click> delete>are you sure you want to move this file to the recycle bin?> YES!

I copy photos as Digital Negative(DNG) and add to catalog

The copy will be the problem. You end up with two files, the DNG and the original.
Bob, with my NEFs, I import at current location and then in LR,convert to DNG which gives me the option of deleting the original - which I do.

I directly import the files from the Epson to my G:drive( to save space on C:). So, I am importing images from G: copy and convert to DNG to G: BUT, I only have one file of each image see attachment. In theory, I should see two files of the same image?

What files do you have in your library Bob/ DNG or Tiff's??

I am guessing( I refuse to count) 97-99% TIFF'S ;the rest is JPEG. Do not tell me that my DNG conversion thing is not working.

"Copy" means copy. If your import dialog is set to copy the files and convert them to DNG, then there are or were before you deleted them copies of the files converted to DNG's lurking somewhere in your system. Right click on one of the problem files in Lightroom and to a choose "Photo/Show In Explorer" or, even easier, select one of the files and to a "Ctrl R".

I backtracked the files; all are in G: see first attachment: I directed the copies to G:\zoo. So, the duplicates files are hiding in the zoo folder BUT look at second attachment: they are all TIFF's despite the fact I was trying to convert to DNG( see first attachment). Now, I know I have duplicate files and I need to delete "bad" one with no links to LR. I do not have any DNG's.

I am getting hungry so that means its dinner time. I will be back in hour or two.

So, "problem" solved. Every time, I pushed the delete from disk button. The file is deleted from the copied files hidden in my zoo folder. All this time, I was staring at the original files and thinking- the button is not working. It all makes sense to me.

PS: DNG conversion not working. Do I smell another thread??????
