Hi hi

I have a mix of date formats in my folder structure within lightroom, and cannot see how to change all to one format, only before when on import preferences.

Can you change a bulk date format after an import? For example from 2''8_'2_29 to December 29 2''8.

I have some files starting in April, as it begins with 'A', and leading on alphabetically. Weird!

I have searched this forum and online for some time, and not found an answer. Any suggestions?

Surely there's an answer here somewhere!

File sorting on most computers is done alphabetically, it doesn't recognise the fact that the name consists of a date. The best way to sort by date is to name the files with a numerical date like 2''9-'9-23.

Hi Sizzling badger,

Thanks for the reply, but in the folder structure in Lightroom you can choose to import with the month in word format instead of number format, for example 'August 12' instead of ''8_12'.

If this is an option in Lightroom, surely you sort the list to be in order in the folder structure in Lightroom, so the folder order inside a given year, for example 2''9, begins with 'January' then 'February' etc.

Am I wrong? Or just asking too much?!

A file or folder name is just that. a name, it has no underlying logic in the arrangement of 'legal' characters in the name. I've never worked with any OS that used anything other that alphanumeric sorting for file/folder names. At best I got an option toi sort numbers in the character sequence first or last.

If you look at the Keyword list which is not a part of the file system, you will also find that it uses the same underlying OS functions to sort.

Ok, thanks for the reply Clee'1, I guess somehow the date settings when importing got changed. I'll have to reimport all my images with the same date format.

Thanks for your info!

Do not reimport or you will have many duplicates to get rid of... Better to just rename the folders in Lightroom when you have spare time.
