I have had this problem for some time and have just compensated. When I have a print that is darker than average or has dark elements, it prints several stops darker than it should, I then have to compensateby upping the exopsure, but this becomes a guessing game. I do have a monitor calibrator which I use but it does not seem to help much. My monitor is and LCD Dell widescreen SP22'8. The appearance does change depending on your vertical perspective, so I have to make sure I am viewing it at midpoint, however on average exposed shots the colors are what they should be.
