Customizing web gallery

Hi, I use a fairly simple structure for my dog agility web page. http://dogshots.biz

As it is now I import and run through LR for noise reduction, then export to jpeg and then I use Breeze Browser Pro to make web galleries for each class which I then upload.

I'd like to use LR for everything, it would save a ton of time not having to export first.

however, here is my issue.

I have 2 navigation buttons on the index page of each web gallery, HOME and TRIAL INDEX. (see my page if that's not clear)

Is there a way to get something like that in a LR gallery?

Hi Joe, you could easily add it in after the gallery's been created. Would that work for you?

"It" being the 2 navigation links? If so, is that fairly intuitive to do, or could you point me to a place that might tell me?
That would be fine, it's what I'm doing now in Breeze Browser Pro, adding the nav links *after* I create the gallery.

There's not a lot written about Web, but it is possible to duplicate the built-in templates and edit your copy. See these:

Generally, I'd say Web is poorly documented, but those who have the incentive to figure it out can do so. If all you want to do is add nav links, you'll need normal HTML editing skills and the ability to recognise the Lua codes inserted in the HTML. It's very much the easy end of using Lua and the SDK.

If you're editing after creating the web gallery, then you'd do basically the same as you do at the moment. No need to worry about Lua in that case, is there John?

That's correct, Victoria, but you'd have to do your HTML editing after every web gallery is output, while my method would be be a on-off exercise. Lua is certainly not for everyone, but for simply tweaking the built-in templates it's not real butch Lua and is no more difficult than figuring out the tokens which I think Breezebrowser uses.

Great, thanks for clarifying that John. Joe mentioned that he currently does it after creating the gallery, but if there's an easy way to change the template, that's even better.

John, let's say that I do a trial, maybe have 25 galleries. There would be a HOME nav button and a nav button to the particular trial index.

Using Lua, would I just need to edit the gallery one time instead of 25 times?

Yes, that's what I mean, Joe. You'd figure out once how to customize the underlying template, and then every gallery would be output with those links.

Still not what I like. John, I looked at the links you put there for Lua, I don't think I have enough background knowledge to puzzle it out. However, even going with the method of simply editing each index page would save me a ton of time over using BB Pro since I could output straight from LR as opposed to exporting as jpeg, *then* building a gallery in BB pro. However, there are still several things I can't figure out. 1. The index page of the gallery is quite small. I cannot figure out how to make it larger. I tried dragging the image size and image border sliders all the way to the right, but all that did was make the picture (after I click on it) huge. 2. I need to have the file number of each photo on or right below the photo. Here's a gallery so you can get a visual of what I need. At least you know you can do that method. Maybe just bear in mind - every time you edit the files - that there may be a quicker way! See http://www.pixiq.com/article/anatomy-of-a-lightroom-html-gallery would be the place to start.

I'm waiting on the OK from Adobe to share my modified version of the default HTML gallery. One of the modifications is... changing the size of the thumbnails.

By the way, do you know you can put html code into the title field. I just tried with Collection Title - you must include the http.

This could be an answer to your needs, I use it for my website to return visitors to a "main galleries index".
Under the right hand tabs in Web, in the Site info tab, you can use the Contact Info and Web or Mail Link.
Here's what I have done.
The Contact Info text box has been edited from "Contact Info" to read "return to main galleries index".
The Web or Mail link box has been edited to the page address for my main galleries index page.
This is very easy to do and you have now allowed visitors to return to your main galleries page.
If you go to my website www.marshallblack.co.uk, then select the galleries page, you will be on a HTML page I created myself for 6 different galleries.
Selecting a gallery will take you to a web gallery created in LR. You can use all the normal LR produced navigation for this gallery, AND use the altered contact info to take you back to the main galleries index page.
Using this method will mean you need to create the main gallery page yourself, and use LR to create each gallery you require.
Might work for you?
