so i have an album i use for screensaver on my tv, its always been in random order and ive spent years putting it that way, currently 2800 photos in it, suddenly today ive gone into it and they are all in capture date order, so i went into the filter and changed it to custom order , and everything stayed in capture date order , its like its basically forgotten the custom order ive kept it in, can anyone suggest anything to go back to how it was

There’s some questions… most notably, how’s it being used as screensaver, and where are you going to change the sort order? Screensaver isn’t a built in feature so I’m intrigued!

I’ve been adding photos randomly over a few years and whenever I add them move them around randomly into the custom order , now since my today it’s like the custom order has reset / vanished , all shots still there but in capture date order now , even when I select custom order

Hi , basically I have the Lightroom app on my Apple TV and have the album slideshow on there I’ve been adding photos randomly over a few years and whenever I add them move them around randomly into the custom order , now since my today it’s like the custom order has reset / vanished , all shots still there but in capture date order now , even when I select custom order

Just a thought….. maybe for future consideration or to make a reset less painful.

There are a few fields within Lr Classic which allow you to edit .. but also have the major advantage that they are sortable.

One I use is “State”… as I do not use that field.

I use this field to provide me with the possibility to have my own custom sort order… and can resort on this (or any other built in sort order) at will.

Two examples…

1. I wish to do a presentation of a club competition. where points have been awarded. I place the scores in the state field and can then sort (ascending or descending) by score ( it is an alpha field so leading zeros are necessary ie 001, 002, 003 etc.

2. I wish to present a set of images in a very definite sequence, independent of file names, capture dates, etc.. I manually place a seq no in the state field to achieve the same result.

This is also a lot easier than manually sorting a collection and exporting the desired sorted set using a file renaming format to preserve the custom sorted order.

I am not sure how this might transfer to the Lr Cloud app… but just an idea.

This field has not always been sortable… I only spotted the option recently…. and I must check what other editable fields can be sorted.

Hi , tbh I gave up on Lightroom classic a few years ago , now use mobile & web versions or whatever it’s called now ( I lose track )

The Apple TV app isn’t supported anymore, it hasn’t been for a few years, but I’d love to know how you set that as screensaver because I’d love to try it!

I’d try accessing the album on LRWeb though, because you may be able to set it back to custom order there. It should remember whatever custom order you’d set, but it might have forgotten that it set it for album. Beyond that, I’d want to know where you set the custom order originally, and what syncing now.

The app very much still works on Apple TV though

Yep, it does. So making it work (or fail) on a supported platform (web) gives it weight or provides a long term solution.

It’s a basic album in Lightroom set to custom order ,
I only use Lightroom on either desktop or iPad , never had this issue before

Hmmm interesting , but worrying , was about to share an album of wedding photos with a bride tomorrow, just checked and the same things happened, whole days timeline mixed up

Hi Paul, sorry I lost track of this thread. Are you still seeing issues? If so, it would be worth reporting them to Adobe.
