  • The November 2019 Lightroom updates are now available. Lightroom Classic includes the ability to export the same photos as multiple sizes/formats in a single export, content aware fill for panorama edges and more. It does require a catalog format upgrade and there are updated system requirements, so you may want to wait a few days before upgrading.
Lightroom (cloud-based service) has export options (such as TIFF format, renaming and color space), custom sort order on the desktop, copy/paste to multiple photos on iOS and more.
The Missing FAQ and Edit Like a Pro eBooks are already updated for the changes.
  • Stop struggling with Lightroom! There's no need to spend hours hunting for the answers to your Lightroom Classic questions. All the information you need is in Adobe Lightroom Classic - The Missing FAQ!

To help you get started, there's a series of easy tutorials to guide you through a simple workflow. As you grow in confidence, the book switches to a conversational FAQ format, so you can quickly find answers to advanced questions. Custom Order does not propagate to the cloud

I'm building a gallery where I compare two cameras (Leica S Typ 007 and Hasselblad X1D ii) side by side. I added both sets of photos to a synced collection in Lr Classic, and made it Custom Order. I then rearranged all photos so that each pair A and B is next to each other in a stack of two. Everything seems fine on the desktop Lr Classic. However, the order does not sync to the CC versions -- it seems that most of As are going first and then most of Bs, and even that order is out of step. I use captions to pair the As and Bs so it is very hard to manually move photos depending only on the image, many images are almost the same except for metadata. If I rename the files themselves in Lr Classic, the file name in LrCC is not updated! At the same time adding photos to the collection propagates fine, so it is being synced.

What is the best way to ensure the custom order seen in Lr Classic is properly propagated to Lr CC/Web?

Alas the order in CC when set to Custom is different from Classic. I wonder what might be going on.

The custom order that you set in Classic should definitely sync to the cloud and be seen when you select the Custom Order sort option in the any of the cloud-based apps. To figure out what's going on, first of all verify that you don't have sync paused in any of the apps, especially Classic.

Then go to the LRWeb app in your browser, select the album then choose the "Display" option from the icons at the bottom of the grid (see attached screenshot).....that option always displays the currently set custom order that has been set and synced to the cloud. If that order is different to the custom order that you've set in Classic, that would suggest that Classic is not syncing correctly. If, OTOH, the order IS the same as Classic, that would suggest that the cloud server isn't syncing the order correctly to the other apps. So we'll take it one step at a time.....let us know the results of the investigation and then we'll try to figure this out.

Alas the order in LrWeb is different than the custom order in Classic. In Classic, I have pairs of images stacked. I wonder how stacking affects the underlying order? The metadata updates like flags and captions are syncing for this collection from Classic to Web so the sync is on and always has been.

I have 75 comparisons paired. They are in the desired order as stacks in the Custom Order view. I can toggle stacks expanded/collapsed with S but I do not want to undo the stacks...

No problem. I've had a quick look and it certainly looks as though stacks in a synced Classic collection do cause a syncing problem when moved into a custom order. I suggest you report the issue to Adobe using the link at the top of the page.

OK I solved it by unstacking everything (ungrouping the stacks, nit just expanding) and rearranging all photos in the right order, so each pair is next to each other. Then I saw that LrWeb was in order. After that I grouped each adjacent pair back together, and LrWeb was still in order.
