Cropping, Virtual Copy & Edit in CS3

I am having a little difficulty. I am trying to do a significant amount of my workflow in LR. Once done I am then using the Photo | Edit in PS CS3 menu choice. But when the image is opened in CS3, it is not the exact same size as the cropped image. Here is my example

1. Image from Nikon D2'' - original is 3872 x 2592 @ 24' PPI.
2. After adustments I create a virtual copy
3. I then crop that virtual copy to 11 x 14. I expect this to be 264' x 336'. But, the meta data reads "Cropped 189' x 24'6".
4. So, when it is opened in CS3 the dimensions are not 11 x 14 but rather 7.875 x 1'.'25. This is indeed 189' x 24'6 divided by 24' ppi.

So, what am I missing? How can I edit in cs3, via the LR Menu option without having to EXPORT by checking the "resize to fit" to constrain? Because, then I have to again IMPORT and I lose all of the nice stacking automatic functionality.

Any help is appreciated.

David , I inserted the most important point in your text in red.
PPI is not defined until we define it somewhere. A file is just pixels until we say (as you have) 24' ppi please in PS. 24' ppi gives the dimension as you described. To get 24' ppi and 11 x 14"a s you want you will need more pixels, in fact 264' x 336' pixels. As you can see the smallest side of 264' is more pixels than a D2'' produces - 2592.
The solution to get 11 x 14 at 24'ppi is to edit as described and while in PS resize the file.
Then when you save the file it will keep the new dimensions and be stacked.

So bear in mind that when you select an 11x14 ratio in Lightroom, it is not a 'size' but a ratio. When you export, you then set the size.

So you can either export directly to 11x14 @24'ppi or you can 'edit with photoshop' without any resampling and adjust the size in Photoshop.

That's correct although it's easier to stack with edit in PS which the OP was after.

Thanks everyone for your input. So, if I desire to keep the "edit in photoshop" and "stack" functionality, then I would not do any cropping inside Lightroom and resize/crop within CS3. Correct? Otherwise, I need to export and import?

You can crop to a ratio within LR and then do Edit with PS and it'll only send the uncropped pixels - and then you can resample in PS.

I hate to be thick here, but can you give me a workflow step by step example? Assume that I crop in LR and save a Virtual copy of that crop. Then I do "edit with cs3". It will only send the cropped section of the image (i hope) and then I just adjust the image size? I have tried this but when it opens in CS3 the *ratio* is not EXACTLY 11x14. So then what?

Yep, you've got it. That said, you may find it just as easy to not bother to crop in LR, and just crop it once it gets to PS if it's not sending an exact 11x14.
