Cropping or Resizing?

I have several photos that are 3872 x 2592 which works out to a 1.49 ratio. I am trying to get these to fit into a 6" x 5" digital frame. As I understand it resizing will keep the same proportionality, which leaves me with "letterboxing" in the digital frame. I have tried every export option in Lightroom and keep coming back to my 1.49 ratio.

Do I really want cropping? If so, how do I automate the process to crop a few hundred photos.

Dave, welcome - can you take a moment to fill in your signature please.

What would work for you is the crop tool which changes ratios only. With that tool you can create a ratio of 6:5 and save that. I would use Virtual Copies in a collection for your images to go in the frame.
Then when you export the files you can just set the pixel dimension for the longest side and you will end up with the size in pixels and the ratio/proportions that you want.

Dave, for doing several hundred at once, you might want to select all the images in Grid View, and then in the Quick Develop panel, choose the pertinent crop ratio. That will apply a 'centered' crop to all of the images at once. You may have to add the 6:5 as a custom ratio first.

Geoff's advice about the collections and VCs is quite good as well, and Sean discusses cropping multiple images in his videocast.
