Cropping 6x4 Horizontal

Hi

I am having trouble finding out how to crop 6x4 horizontal. I can select the Aspect 6x4 but when I crop the picture, it's vertical.

I also been watching some videos on the aspect ratio cropping (6x4) and I am not getting the results seen in the video.

I hit the 'Crop' tool, then I set the aspect ration to 6x4. The video says that I can move the frame to anywhere around the original with the Alt key (PC) but maintaining the 6x4 ratio. That's not the case. The moment I move or drag the edge of the picture, the aspect ratio reverts to 'Original'. I need to crop a bunch of photos to 6x4 (horizontal) for a friend and this driving me 'nuts'.:cry:

Can some please help me or point me to a more clearer video to follow? Cropping in PS is so straight forward...

Am I understanding you correctly? Do you want to make a horizontal 6x4 crop from a vertical image? If so, select 4x6 from the drop-down menu and then click the Aspect icon and then draw a box that goes from one side to the other. Release the mouse button and you can then move or resize the box.

if you have an image that was shot in vertical 4x6 format, you are going to lose two thirds of that image if you crop it to 4x6 horizontal.

To change the crop from vertical to horizontal, you have to grab one of the corners of the crop box and drag it way off in the horizontal direction. then the box will eventually change to a horizontal box which you can then adjust however you want.

No, I have horizontal (landscape) pictures and want to crop 6x4 landscape but each time I lock the aspect ratio to 6x4, when I crop, I get a vertical 6x4. I cannot work out how to change the crop to landscape. I followed some online instructions to drag some of the points but when I do this, the aspect ratio changes to 'original'.

OK - good, then you don't have an impossible task.

Look, I am the newest newbie on the forum, but I think I know how to do this - I may not know the terminology to use.

I had the same problem when I wanted to crop my photos to 8x1' vertical and the crop kept coming up horizontal.

What I figured out is that I had to grab the corner tab of the crop rectangle and drag it around until the crop changed to vertical.

In your case as I understand it, you have a horizontal image but the crop rectangle keeps coming up vertical.

If this is the case then you should be able to grab the top right rectangle and drag it down and to the right - more right than down. At some point the crop rectangle should switch to horizontal. When this happens then you can continue to adjust the actual crop boundaries as you wish.

I know you cannot do it by grabbing the middle of one of the sides of the crop rectangle and dragging it left or right.

You might try making a severe vertical crop and then dragging one of the corners off to the right or left - this may convince it that you really want a horizontal aspect ratio.

I know so little about LR that I hesitate to offer any advice at all, but this is a battle that I just won for myself, so I thought I'd hop in - may be my only chance ever.

Late last night, I gave it another go and I sort of found out how to do as indicated by mjmcrae but what I don't understand, why sometimes when I drag the edges, the aspect ratio reverts to 'original' even if 6x4 is locked.
