crop without a ratio

I can't find the way to crop an image freely i.e. without ratio. I did open the lock and choose "personalised" (It may not be the right term, I'm on a French version), but it still keeps a ratio.

Just open the lock and start cropping. No need to select "Custom" or anything else.

You always have an aspect ratio. It may not be "Standard". but you will crop to some aspect ratio. While you can use one of the standard aspect ratios, you can create your own (I use 16:9 and 8:9 to match my full size or half size monitor and HDTV) or you can unlock the crop windows as Jan has said. If your target is a print, you should choose an aspect ratio to match one of the standard print paper sizes.

Thank you both. I know I should start aiming at a specific ratio, like Clee rightfully suggests, if I intend to print at some point. But I'm not there yet, and what I need now is to crop as close to the edges of my scans as possible, in order to keep as much as possible of the negative, because my scan didn't allow me to cover the whole surface of each negative, distorted parts of the edges, etc. I know, this is not good advertisement for my scanner (a Plustek), but this is all I have.
It was in fact very easy to do so, like Jan said, just unlock and start cropping, without choosing any of the options offered.
