Win 11
LRC 15.5
When I hit "R" from library mode, the Develop mode opens with the crop overlay showing but crop tool is the zoom tool? If I hit R again (to get out crop mode) then hit R again (to get back into crop mode) the crop tool shows again.
If I go to develop mode, then hit R, the crop tool shows???
I have tried resetting preferences, closing down LR, and rebooting, but the same thing happens.
Is this a known bug?
This has just happen in the last week. Was there an update last week?

Not sure why you think R is Zoom. Here are the menus for Crop and Zoom.

No. When I hit R for crop, the zoom tool pops up, not the crop tool. That is the problem.

I'm not sure I understand what it is that you are seeing after pressing the "R" key. Can you post a screenshot?

When I am in library, I press "R". That shortcut takes me to cropping in develop. It takes me to cropping but the cropping icon (+protractor) is not there. It is replaced by the Zoom icon (+magnifier).
Pic is after hitting "R" from library.

What makes this stranger is that if i hit D, from library then R the cropping works as it should.
Everything work as it should have before the latest update.

It is not clear what your issue is. I agree with Jim that a Screen shot will help

Pressing {R} from either Library or Develop initiates the Crop tool IN Develop. Pressing {R} while in the Crop tool ends the Crop Session but you remain in Develop.
Pressing {Z} toggles the Zoom in Library Loupe view or Develop. view. It defaults to what ever value is set in the Navigator panel. Does this help?

I would check if you have one of the Full Screen modes active.

Yep, tried that. Nothing changed.

My LrC does NOT do that. That means a setting is causing it. Sorry, I am not sure what it is. Please check for keyboard remapping in Windows or a third-party app.

I think this is because you have neither the Aspect tool other the Angle tool selected. You need you have one or the other selected.

The only problem with this observation is that I cannot reproduce what the OP shows in his screenshot, even if I want to. There is no way I can activate the Crop Tool and then deselect both the Aspect Tool and the Angle Tool.

I can't either, but then I only have a MacOS to work with. Once the OP chooses a tool on the Crop straighten process, I think the issue resolves itself. What I can't duplicate is how the Crop process is invoked WITHOUT defaulton to one or the other tools.

Agreed, that would be a simple solution, providing that the OP can actually choose a tool. As we cannot reproduce the situation where no tool is selected, we also don’t know if you can solve it by selecting a tool.

The closest thing that I could replicate what you are seeing was when I attempted to edit an image that is offline. (External drive not attached)
Pressing R to crop shows the same magnifier icon and everything in the crop menu is greyed out, however there is also a message at the top of the photo that says "The file could not be found".
I do not see the Photo Missing error in your screen captures so that is not your issue, but perhaps there is a file permissions problem where Lightroom cannot write to the catalog that is causing a similar state?

Hit R in library, then in Develop, the Crop section in the right hand panel is greyed out, the only thing that works is the "tool overlay" drop down menu and "close".
Both "Aspect Tool and the Angle Tool" are greyed out.

What is really weird is that, if I hit R, again while in Develop (close crop), then hit R again (open crop) it works as it should. (so when I am in Library, I have to hit R 3 times slowly to get to the crop tool in Develop).

I have tried resetting preferences, no effect. And I dont think remapped the shortcuts is the answer either (hitting R eventually works).
It was frustrating last night live editing during a sporting match to a dead line. 10yr + of muscel memory out the window.

Are either your photos, catalog or cache stored in a One Drive or other Cloud storage folder?
Upon first access of the photo file there may be a file lock in place while it syncs, that is why is works shortly after once the file sync is complete.
Highly recommended that the catalog and cache should NOT be in a One Drive folder.

A Windows update may have automatically included your photos in OneDrive Photos, I was reading that an update released after Aug 1 accidentally installed it if OneDrive was previously enabled on the PC.

Good thought. Catalog was in One Drive, but one drive is disable. Move the Catalog out of one drive folder.
But problem still exsists.

2. Updated Video card drivers (as "use Graphics Processor and "use GPU" grayed out. Unsure if this was grayed out before problem). No Effect.


3. Rolled back LIghtroom from 15.5 to 15.4.1
Crop tool now works as it should (yay).

Also Version 15.5 disable or grayed out "use Graphics Process", and "Use GPU".
In the old 15.4.1 "Use Graphics Processor" and "Use GPU" is not grayed out and set to Auto.

So hopefully this has solved the problem.

It eliminated or changed the symptoms. Unless you want to stay at 15.4.1 forever, there is a good chance the problem will reappear. Good luck.
