Okay.... I like to think of myself as a LR power user.

And perhaps that extra glass of wine tonight has kept me from thinking clearly.

But... I am stumped.

I want to edit photo #1 as a 1:1 aspect ratio. So I select the 1:1 crop option and then I click the little lock icon to lock the crop at that ratio.

Then I jump ahead 5 photos and decide I need to crop again. Press "R" on the keyboard and my crop tool comes up, but the ratio is back to the original 4x6 setting when I wanted it locked at 1:1

What did I do wrong?

Tim

Tim, you weren't wrong, this has always been a little buggy/counterintuitive. The lock simply means that the current crop will be locked to the selected aspect ratio, as opposed to freeform. This is a bit counterintuitive, it seems as if the lock should work to keep the current aspect ratio.

I thought some work had been done to preserve the 'stickiness' of the selected crop in 2.3. I know Mark S and Sean McC have done a lot of experimenting with this, and perhaps they'll have some helpful advice.

In this case, if you had not edited any of the intervening photos, when you 'jumped 5 ahead', the Previous button would have applied the same crop (along with any other adjustments) from the recently adjusted image. This may be a help, but more likely a hindrance.

The canonical workaround is to multi-select the crop candidate images in bulk in Library Grid view, and apply the crop there. That will result in a centered crop, but in the correct aspect ratio for all.

Personally my solution is to select the images I want cropped to a certain ratio in Grid and apply it from Quick Develop. I then refine it in Develop as needed. Usually it's a 8X1' crop, so I shoot with this in mind, leaving myself a little less work to do in PP (i.e. I leave space at the top and bottom (in a vertical) to crop out).

Or press S to apply the same aspect ratio as the previously selected image...

Nice one Victoria, just finished cropping 5' files to A4, one at a time!!!:lol::lol::shock::shock::roll::roll::mrgreen:

I always forget that one too. I think it was Sean who reminded me the other day actually!

Surprising no one noticed when I mentioned it in the forums a while back. But I shall admit that I first saw that S trick on Sean's own blog. Thanks Sean! :D

Still to use keyboard when using LR ?

Guys,

With magic shortcuts everywhere on the keyboard I'm afraid touching the keyboard by accident .... What will magically happen with my photograph ?
There must be another magic shortcut to disable shortcuts, no ?
