Hi Everyone! I am new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help. I recently purchased my canon 5'D and have been shooting RAW as I did with my canon 3'D. When I shot these images, they looked great and the camera's histogram was right on... However, when I imported my images (CR2 files) into Lightroom 2.', I found them to have a ton of noise (as if shooting them at 16'' ISO) and all with a magenta tint to them. Trying to correct this problem has been a nightmare and they have a greenish tint when I do it. Is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks so much!

Did you use any Develop settings in Import? Did you convert to DNG? Or are you looking at the CR2 file in LR? What ever the RAW file, apply the develop setting General Zeroed. And see it this does not return you to a dull flat photo typical of un edited RAW images. With this as a starting point, apply filters that you think appropriate to the image. and see if you get better results.

Another thing to check: In Develop mode Check the Camera Calibration module in the Right panel There you will find a profile chosen. That default profile may not be right for the 5'D which is a fairly new model. If one of the Profile choices is Embedded, use that instead of "Adobe Stabdard" or "Camera Standard" If the default is "Adobe Standard", try "Camera Standard" to see if tha makes a difference.

Hi!
Thank you for your response! I did not use any settings when I imported the image, nor did I convert them, they are just CR2 files in LR. I also checked the camera calibration and it is set for canon 5' D. I tried zeroing out the image with the "general zero" filter which helped a little but once I brought back up the blacks, the magenta color was back again.... I have to edit an entire wedding of this and the black tux is going to be the death of me!

Do you have Automatic Lighting Optimizer (ALO) mode turned on? I've seen reports that while it doesn't directly impact raw capture, it does impact the JPG conversion, which in turn impacts the LCD preview and histo, which in turn can impact your exposure choices, typically leading to an underexposure. This may then lead to the underexposed, 'pushed' result you're seeing.

Just a thought.....

Edit: I see you posted while I was typing. My question may help going forward, but clearly won't be of any value in post-processing existing shots.

Re-edit: Welcome to the forums....

Your profile says you are using 2.'. If that is true you should be upgrading to 2.4 and trying again.

Here is an snapshot of what my CR2 files are looking like in LR without any changes... not sure if you can tell but it is really grainy.

Hi Everyone!
I just updated to the LR 2.4 version and my problems are fixed! Thank you so much for all the advice!

In case you're interested, Canon changed firmware between 2.' release and 2.4 release (I can't remember the exact version) and all of the raw converters had to be updated to work properly with the new firmware to solve the newly created magenta cast. That's probably why it's now working after the update.
