Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to copy your smart collection as set up in one catalog, to another? In other words, I want to copy the same set of smart collections (Or rather, smart collection rules/filters, not the images) into another catalog, to have the same filters (Smart collections) applied to the other images in the other catalog.

Thanx in advance.

(Using LR2.1)

Right click them, and choose export which creates a text file which can be imported into another Alternatively, if there are lots of SCs and there's a tree structure, make a copy of the catalogue file and remove the images. You can also do an export as catalogue using a single image, then import from catalog, but you have to be careful making sure all the SCs go over.

However, this is one example of where breaking up control of your pictures into multiple catalogues is less than optimal. When you edit a SC, you'll have to copy it across. Far better to control your pictures in one catalogue and use SCs to slice and dice it.

I do have a bit of a hierarchy in my smart folders, so it would have been nice to be able to export all at once. But thanx for the info, I will create a template and copy the folders in that manner.

Hopefulle LR3 would provide another way ;)

I would have loved to put all images into one catalog, and subdivide shoots using dumb collections, but dont want to end up with an endless list of offline collections, as I prefer to archive my images offline (DVD) when they are not actively worked on anymore.

In this case, where you're regularly creating new catalogs, make yourself a "template catalog" which includes all your smart collections, presets, and preferences.

Then instead of creating new catalogs, copy your template catalog instead.
