Control over where LR places files after being worked on with a plugin...

...is what I want. I wanted to try Nik ColorFx or some such plugin, and I found that LR places the worked-on file back in the same folder that the raw file came from. This violates my personal system of keeping the raw files separate from everything else. Why not be able to assign LR to place plugin-worked-on files in the folder of my choice???

Pluton, welcome to the forums.

Nothing stopping you. Save the derivative where you want it, and then import it to Lr.
To have Lr do that automatically, I think is beyond Lr's current capability and will require a new feature. There's a link to Adobe's official request page at the forum/thread.

Or, you can allow it to come back into Lightroom and them move it into a different folder in your folder's panel.

I have a Smart Collection or two whose sole purpose is to round up errant TIFF's and PSD's so that I can relocate them into the folder I wish. By default, I stack the -edit files with the original so I can find them and then I collect them and move them via the SC and the Folder Panel

[/quote]How are you going to live with XMP sidecar files encroaching upon your RAW file space?

I would export the file, and use the post processing step to invoke the external program.
