Since upgrading to LR 6.14 a couple of years ago I have noticed that switching back and forth between the Library and Develop modes has become rather problematic. Sometimes when I hit the shortcut D key while in Library mode the transition takes place quickly, sometimes slowy. At other times I get the spinning beach ball and it runs for a few seconds before the switch is made. Other times the computer hangs for several minutes, and my attempts to force quit fail. Occasionally I eventually have to shut off the power and then restart the computer. I am using a several year old 21" iMac with a 1TB Fusion drive and 16 GB of memory. Has anybody got any idea why this might be happening? And how I might fix the problem?

You are running legacy software on a legacy operating system. It does not surprise me that you encounter such issues. I don't remember if GPU acceleration had been enabled in V6.14, but If it was, it could be a factor. Try turning off GPU acceleration in Preferences if that is an option.

I already tried that and it had no effect. The weird thing is that you can sit at the keyboard alternately hitting the shortcut keys E& D anf LR will make the switch flawlessly five or six times and then either slow down appreciably or literally hang up. I had this problem once before and then it seemed to go away for awhile. Back then Victoria thought it might have something to do with the fusion drive but she never explained why.
