Combined jpeg and tif files in Lightroom

Hi all. This could well be my computing shortcomings, but the forum was so helpful the first time I used it, so here goes: I have recently had installed an additional drive in my PC and wanted to transfer all my pictures from the existing drive to the new one. I used the Lightroom 'Add Folders' option, selected the top level folder from my original drive, then copied all to the new drive.
Everything appeared to proceed OK, until I saw the results. Size for size I have successfully copied the complete drive content to the new drive, but there were a lot of pictures apparently missing.
On looking at the new drive, on every occassion that tif and jpeg files existed for the same picture on the original drive, in the new drive they have been combined under a name 'File Name'.tif+JPEG, but I can only get to see the tif file, not the jpeg. (If I attempt to drag and drop an individual jpeg into the new drive I receive the message it is already there).
I do not want to keep digging myself deeper, but need some help.

It's late, and I'm not quite sure I'm following you right now, but answer me 2 questions:

1. Are the files still on the original drive as well?
2. Do you have a catalog backup from just before you moved the files, in case you want to take a step backwards and do it differently?

Yes, I think it was a rather long winded question.

1. Yes, all the files are still on the original drive. I will not remove them until I am 1''% confident that the new drive looks and behaves entirely correctly.
2. I do still have the Lightroom catalogue of the original drive, with the tifs and jpegs being displayed seperately, as normal.

In that case let's try it the easy way.

Tuck your current catalog away somewhere safe, in case you want to go back to it.

Copy the files to the new location, making sure they've all copied. Just use the OS to do that, or file sync software.

Put a COPY of your backup catalog somewhere and open it. Right click on the parent folder, and choose Update Folder Location and point to the new location.

If you've got tonnes of folders, you might want to update the folders panel to show a hierarchy so that you only have to relocate the parent. http://www.lightroomqueen.com/blog/...can-i-change-it-to-show-the-folder-hierarchy/

Thanks Victoria, that was brilliant.
I finally got to try out your suggestion on Christmas night and the result was so incredibly quick that I had to check to see if something had gone wrong!
These are probably very, very basic questions to you, but to me, a techno phobe, they can be show stoppers.
I now have my reconstructed library in place, with RAWs back in as well and all fully backed up, on site and off site. Thanks again, much appreciated.
