Hi,

Is there a way to set-up LR to clearly denote file type in the expanded cell in grid view?
ACDSee has an easy to read icon at the top right.
LR can add file extension as text to the header label. But this is far from easy to read.

Any tips gratefully received.

Nothing to display in a BIG way to be more readable TBMK.

As it is now you can see the File Extension (File type) in-
Metadata: Filename
12617

Just above the Filmstrip
12618

On the preview border in Grid view
12619

As Information on Loupe View
12620
.
If you are not a regular user of Color Labels, you could apply a Color Label to indicate File types (Red=JPG Purple=raw Yellow=TIFF, etc)

Is there a way to setup colour labels to automatically associate with file types?
No but you could use the Metadata Filters at the top of the Grid view to filter for a file type, select all of those photos and apply a color label, then repeat for each of the others.
