I'm a little bit baffled by LR at the moment. When I'm in the develop module my images appear slightly different than when they are in the library module. When i export to JPEG they appear like library version rather than develop version.

In the image below i have done the following:
Imported RAW from camera and edited it to my taste, exported the image to JPEG (which was added to catalogue). When i viewed the JPEG it appeared different when viewed in Develop module.

WHy isn't the image i develop being exported how i wish? All so when viewing the edited image in library module does it not appear the same as in the develop module?

I have some screen shots to try and help me explain.

Appearing in library

Jpeg in Library

You can see they are pretty much the same, but if i now go to the develope moduel

Any ideas?

Welcome to Lightroom Forums Rich!

Seem you made the goof of exporting in same folder as original raw so the develop settings try to work over the already developped version...

The RAW is kept in a folder Pictures<2'1'<Date Taken

The JPEG is stored in the folder Pictures-<2'1'<Date Taken<JPEG

So the JPEG is in a sub folder.

Oh Rich, fancy seeing you here! This is a much better place to chat!

Ok, take the jpeg out of the equation for a minute and just stick to the raw file. If you skip back and forth between:

Library Fit
Library 1:1
Develop Fit
Develop 1:1

Which one's the odd one out?

OK. Good to know as it is not what I taught at first. In this case, follow Victoria's suggestion.

Do you remember the swan and sunset pictures from a while back Denis? I'm thinking this is probably the same scenario.

The odd one out is develop fit.

How would I replicate the effect in develop fit though? As that's the style I'm after?

Looking back trhough m images the same thing has happened to all of them

Ok, yeah, that is the same problem then. In which case, the other views are more accurate.

To replicate, off the top of my head, I'd look at thumping up the saturation and then heading for the HSL panel and looking at the saturation on those orangey-yellowy-red tones.

so I need to keep altering, making the develop image look perhaps over saturated, so the outcome will be more like the develop image is now?

Is there any reason it does this though? Any way I could stop it doing it?

Zoom in or skip back to Library to see what it'll look like. There isn't an easy fix, I'm afraid. If you want to upload the file somewhere though, I'll see if it's fixed in LR3.

I had a similar issue an it turned out it wasn't LR at all. The jpeg was being rendered smaller to fit on the screen and due to some artificial noise in the image it changed quite drastically below a certain size. I had the same results in Aperture and Preview. Although in this case it looks like it may be a different issue as you don't have noise.

Is it possible the Default Develop Settings for jpeg in the Develop Module are not standard ?

Also, why store the jpegs in LR anyway ? You can create them when ever you need them.

Ive spent some time today looking through my images.

If i PP a RAW then export it to JPEG, then view it back in lightroom, in every image the histogram changes very slightly. Now i am aware of it i can see it in all images where as before i didn't notice.

Making it quite a struggle to know exactly what the exported JPEG will look like.

I'm surprised no one else hasn't noticed it?

So is it conclusive that it's one of those things and i should wait until LR 3 comes out and hope it's rectified in that edition?

The histogram will change because the jpeg image has a different bit depth and colour space, this is totally normal. Some images do seem to 'look' different but again a lot of this is down to jpeg compression and not inherently a LR issue. However there does seem to be an issue in certain circumstances that effects a very small number of images.

Have you confirmed that your default jpeg develop settings have not been changed ?

Yeah they haven't changed. Lookig at other threads with similar I would tend to agree that on export it is saturation that changes, with the JPEG becoming flat. The colour difference is most noticable with yellow orange and red

Rich, what colour space were you exporting to?

I have tried exporting to all 3 colour spaces with no difference.

Victoria, were any of the previous threads I posted solved? They seem to have the same problem with library, develop and export
viewing.

Rich, I've only just skimmed quickly as I'm really short on time this week, but they all sound like the same problem - Develop view at less than 1:1 being the odd one out due to the resampling. It *may* be fixed in LR3 because the whole preview system has changed, but I don't have any of those files here to check any more. If you want to drop me your file (to [email protected]), I'm quite happy to check for you.

Got it Rich, thanks. I'll have a look and see if I can replicate the problem. In answer to your question, select the file in LR and hit Cmd-S - that'll write an xmp sidecar with your settings.
