ColorSpace workflow question....

Hi,

I am jsut beginning to scan all of mu mold film into high quality TIFF files which I will then import into LightRoom for Post Processing and then printing. Should I assign a ColorSpact to imbed into the scanned image files when they are scanned (I am using SilverFast AI software in conjunction with a Nikon Super CoolScan 9''' scanner to do the work and Silverfast will assign a ColorSpaxce on output if desired) or assign no ColorSpace and do that when the file is exported or printed from LightRoom? I am new to all of this and I am embaressed to say I find much of the workflow confusing.

Any hints? ???

It is confusing Bennett, so never feel embarrassed to ask.

It's years since I last used Silverfast, but I have vague recollections. If you're scanning slides or negatives (I'm not familiar with mu mold film... what's that?), then I seem to remember that there are no input profiles to deal with. It will let you choose its internal space, if I remember correctly, so I'd go with ProPhotoRGB to give it the largest space to work with, and make sure you've got 'embed icc profile' checked. When you later export or print from Lightroom, it will convert (better than assign) to whatever profile you choose.

Dear Victoria,

Whar Colorspace does LR use..? or can one choose? I will be printing from LR to my Epson 38''... Eric Chan seems to favor printing from LR over printing from CS4. Great LR endorsement.

Thank you - I should learn not to read things quite so literally. I even googled it! LOL

LR uses its own color space internally, so don't worry about that. It'll read the embedded profile and act accordingly. When you come to print, then you'll choose a profile for the printer, and it'll sort out the bit in between.
