Colors in Develop and Library modules different?

I was working on a large panoramic shot today and spent a long time getting everything right the way I wanted in the develop module. I then went back to the library view ("E") where the program spent a lot of time rendering the full sized view. When it was done rendering the image looked different than it had looked in the develop module. I wasn't sure what to make fo this but I then proceeded to export the image to JPG. I selected sRGB as the color space since I was going to email this picture and when the export was finished the JPG looked like the (crappy) version I saw in the library module!

Thinking it may have been color space issues (unlikely but who knows) I exported in the other two formats, AdobeRGB and ProPhotoRGB. Neither worked. Still looked like the crappy version in the library module.

This is the first time I've seen this happen, or at least seen it happen to a degree that I noticed it. What is the cause, and is there a solution? Since we have to edit things in the develop module it is a hopeless guessing game to try to make adjustments in the develop module not knowing what they will look like in the library module or upon export!

I should note that this was the first time I really made heavy use of the local adjustments brush. The image I was working on had white balance problems wherein one portion of the image needed a very cool white balance whereas the other portion needed a warm white balance. To fix this I applied the warm white balance all over using the WB adjustment tool, and then I painted in a blue cast using the adjustment brush over the parts of the image that were too yellow as a result of the WB adjustment, in order to bring the colors back to neutral. Could this be causing the problem? Switching back and forth between the two modules it looks like the only places where the previews differ is in the areas where I adjusted the color using the local adjustment brush.

P.S. this is LR2.1 updated yeseterday. Source panoramic file was a TIFF in ProPhotoRGB color space stitched in Hugin.

Welcome Ruahrc, hopefully we can come up with something.
A few more details will help though so to help us help you could you please take a moment to fill in your signature in the "userCP' that is found at the top left of the page - thanks.
Is your monitor calibrated?

Ruahrc, can you post screenshots, showing the Develop module view and the Library module view? That may give us a few more clues on what's going wrong. Thanks!

What am I supposed to put in my sig? I put some basic info in it and yes my monitor is calibrated.

I think my problems have to do with the following issue:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=333659

Because when I zoom the develop module to 1:1 the colors shift a little and it looks like the library module. Is this KB article still relevant, however, because it refers to LR1 and I am using LR2.1 (i.e. was this issue fixed in LR2 or LR2.1?)

It's funny though because I haven't really had a problem with this before, but like I said I have never really used local adjustments before this picture. Combined with the fact that the pano is large (15'''x3'''px) it may be exaggerating the problem due to the resampling issue described in the above article.

My question is why is it like this? It seems like pretty poor design to use different rendering methods in the modules that will not give consistent output. Why render the develop module in a way such that the picture will not look like the output versions? Yes I can do all of my editing in 1:1 and get accurate results but there are many edits (especailly things like WB and colors/tones, etc) that are best done while looking at the whole image.

I'll work on getting some screenshots posted so you can see.

Maybe you could give us some info in your signature similar to mine. It helps to know about OS, set up, etc. Thanks

My understanding is that article still describes the previews. What size and quality previews do you use as standard?

Pics added to above post. I'm using high quality previews for the library tab as suggested by the article. 1'24 is the size I think.

Thanks for the sig info and the screen shots.
If I recall there are some more things behind the previews at high quality that can affect things at certain times. I don't recall exactly the issues but at the time changed my previews to medium so as not to encounter them. Try changing your preview preference to medium and re render the standard preview and see if that does any thing.

That is a bigger different than I'd expect. Out of interest, what happens if you try the same on a much smaller copy of that same photo? Someone else recently mentioned colour shifts on huge panoramic photos, I'm wondering if there's a bit more to it than basic previews.
