Color Space of TIFFs, PSDs and JPGs

Hello,

I hope I am missing something here, but...
How can one find the colorspace embedded into pixel files inside LR?
I mean, it's not in the metadata, it's not in the metadata browser...
I am getting tired of Comd+R followed by Comd+I !

You are correct, it is not there. However, like many Adobe decisions, this my be deliberate, so as not to confuse people, Because, even though a JPEG, maybe sRGB and a TIFF aRGB, the working space is Melissa style ProPhotoRGB hybrid, so it could get people in trouble with their thinking, if they don't know what that all means.


Especially when it comes to any kind of output from LR.

Thanks for your answer, but it is not very helpful...
We know the internal space is MelissaRGB, we know it is a ProphotoRGB with a modified gamma, we know which are the three output options (export: sRGB, aRGB, ProPhotoRGB), we know we have to turn off our printer Color Management to let LR convert to one of its profiles.
How come we cannot know which colorspace is embedded into a simple jpg?
What harm can one do just by *knowing* it is aRGB or sRGB?
Sorry, it makes no sense to me the way it is hidden from my eyes...

Ah, maybe if there was a pro-option to show. Newbies, that don't know about MelissaRGb, etc, might otherwise get confused more than they already are, thinking they are seeing that sapce for that document., Unless there was a warning about properly interpreting what is happening.

Maybe it's just because that colour space Melissa is only used in the LR preview. It would not be used in any imbedded preview or the file. So it would only be stored in the LR catalog db and preview db.

Yes.
But...
If a file has already an embedded profile, like a JPG from a camera, LR should show the embedded profile somehow, that is the whole point!

There's a colour space called 'Melissa' ?:shock:

Better go google it I guess...:?

You'll only find it in Lightroom. It is the space used by LR to display your images in Develop.
