A new Asus PA279CRV or a refurbished (from a reputable source) Lenovo p27u20? I'll be printing.

Neither are considered HDR at 400nits, even though both meet the minimum specs for HDR10. Personally I would not buy another monitor for future use that did not provide HDR10+ and 600 or more nits.

The specs on both are about identical. If refurbished means it was used and returned or simply that the box was opened and returned not used. are two different situations. Amazon often sells returns at a discount and has an Asus PA279CRV for $368USD (Used good condition). And a Lenovo P27u-20. for $280USD (Used good condition).

A year ago, I got an ASUS PA32UCG used and good condition from Amazon. There were some cosmetic issues with the exterior but otherwise it is technically perfect. I would not hesitate buying used from Amazon because I can return it if not satisfied.

Regarding the rest of the specs, specs claimed by the manufacturer aren’t usually useful, so I look for independent reviews. That’s where I concluded they were mostly similar…the reviews I found reported great wide gamut color accuracy for both. Not much information on uniformity, though.

Neither is a good choice for HDR editing in Adobe apps because they don’t get bright enough, but if most of your work is for print or web, HDR isn’t a factor. HDR might become useful for web sites and social media as the standards come together, but if HDR isn’t important to you then the luminance of both displays is fine. Adobe HDR editing will never be important for printing.

Beyond that, it’s down to the convenience features you care about, like which ports you need. The Lenovo is remarkable for having Thunderbolt ports, if you need a Thunderbolt hub. Both can charge a laptop through USB Power Delivery.

Thanks folks. I decided to get the Asus. I don't do anything that would require HDR, as I'm just printing and posting on my website. My office lighting isn't particularly bright either, so while I'm sure there are "better" options, I don't think the cost/benefit is there in my current environment. Perhaps that will change, but I've been doing this successfully for several years with my Benq GW2765...I'm thinking this one will be at least as capable. If not...it's Amazon...it can go back.
Thanks again!

I don't use HDR feature of LrC much either. But I do think as more and more apps and TV do move in that direction, it will be more important. So for a monitor that will serve me well now and in the future, I think an HDR10+ monitor should be considered.
